SAMOA WEEK
Yesterday was the launch of Samoa language week and the theme was Ia u’u mau i au measina which means in english hold fast to your treasures. There were guests there, it was Mr Peseta Sam Lotuiiga and Reverend Leiite Setefano and the faletua. The aoga a le teuila joined  and tamaki college and they performed really good. We sang two national anthems we sang Samoa and New Zealand.  We were lucky to be nominated from the minister to launch the Samoan language week at our school.

After  we performed Mr Burt  asked a volunteer from the Samoan group to sing the food prayer in Samoa. After that Reverend Leiite  Setefano said a speech in Samoa and there was one part of the speech that was interesting is when he said “ language is a gift from God”, that made me interested and then he closed us with a prayer. Everyone went to class and we stayed to help the guest with their food and talk to them.

SCIENTIFIC METHOD

Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.52.39 pm.png  Ask a Question/ or Make an Observation:
What are you curious about? Or what you seen that makes you wonder?
Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.52.30 pm.png   Research Your Topic:
What information can you find out about your topic.
Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.52.21 pm.png    Write a Hypothesis
What do you think is the the answer to your problem or
the reason for your observation? Make an educated
                  guess that you can test.
Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.52.07 pm.pngPlan and Perform Experiments:
                A) You will need to plan or design your experiment to
test your hypothesis. B) Predict what you think will
happen in your experiment. C) Test it and gather data.
Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 1.51.57 pm.pngAnalyse Your Data/ Conclusion:
What does you data show? Did the experiment confirm
your hypothesis? Your prediction may not have been
                Correct. That’s O.K.

The last 55
The remaining 55 Maui dolphins in the world is a total disaster. These dolphins are going to be extinct in the next three years. It started in the 1900's there were only 1800 and now its all down to 55. The whaling commission predict that the dolphins will be extinct in 2031 and that will be the end of the 55 in the world. The Government and the people are trying their best to save them. 55 is a really sad number these animals are gonna be extinct soon they will not be part of the world.

ECHOLOCATION

Did you know marine mammals like dolphins and whales use echolocation  same as the bat?. They use echolocation to locate their prey and to navigate around their environment. Bats  emit high a pitched sound and wait until it echoes back to the bat and that tells the bat there is an object. Marine mammals uses echolocation like this to.

Echolocation is not only used by animals there are very few humans that use echolocation. Ben is a boy that doesn't have any  eyes  but he uses echolocation to navigate his way.  He might not have eyes but he can locate his way through cars and ride his bike everywhere. He emits a sound clicking his tongue and he listens for an echo to see if there is anything ahead.

The people from the university of California wanted to have an experiment with Ben. They did a test to see if he could tell where the objects are and how high they were. He got all of them right but it was hard for him to tell where a thin object was  because when he emitted a sound it bounced everywhere. But amazingly he managed to locate a thin stick standing up on the table.

As you can see that some animals can use their ears to see by using echolocation to navigate their way and and to locate their prey. Not only animals that uses echolocation other humans uses echolocation like Ben. He uses echolocation to see and he emit a sound by clicking his tongue.

immersion assembly

Immersion assembly

Today’s assembly was awesome as it was about how I like to move it move it. It was funny. When I was in the hall all the teachers were in different costumes and we watched every team’s topic our topic was about sounds. My favourite team topic was team one it was about the zoo because they are going to the zoo tomorrow. This term in team5 we are going to learn about sound and we have to create instruments using different objects.

In assembly Mr Burt did a experiment it was about the movie Up when the house was flying using balloons but in our assembly we tied the balloons into a small taxi toy  from Mr Burt it took sixteen balloon to make the small taxi to fly. Mr Jacobsen was walking on the stage wearing his 8 fencing wire shirt and he told us what his shirt means and then he asked for volunteer and he picked lee and they were discussing what 8 fencing wire was.
